This is an annotation of V. P. Terin's book Mass Communications: A Western Experience Study published in 1999.

The author began with the studies of the media culture and its research in the West in the 1960s when he was a student of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations. In those years already he dealt mostly with Western media sociology, social psychology, cultural and political studies. Due to this fact, he would find himself in a favorable position to interrelate and compare the mass communication processes in Russia, the West and the rest of the world.

The book in question emerged as an extension of the author's previous research with regard to the present-day worldwide communication realities.

Mass communications and mass culture as well as their social, cultural and psychological impact are dealt with in the book in relation to the survival and development problems faced by Russia in the globalization context.
